Heading for a weekend at Mom’s house. It was well deserved consider they tried to run away just a few days before.
Nick, our dogwalker, called us to say that when he got to the house on Tuesday afternoon that both Huck and Daisy were outside and that Huck was laying on the ground outside not moving. We were so worried- we rushed home to find that they had scratched the screen window out and jumped the 8 foot drop out the window. Daisy was just fine but Huck had the wind knocked out of him. We weren’t sure if there was any serious damage or not so we had to take him to the vet. When we got to the house he was walking around ok but was still really upset. The vet said he was just fine and maybe a bit of the drama-queen.

He spent the next few days whining for attention- but seemed to be just fine.

So we headed up to Mom’s for the weekend after a little meditation in the car.

He loves riding shotgun in the car.
Next: Sunday morning. Mom and I wake up early Sunday morning to bake bread (mostly her) and to pick raspberries. After a cup of hot coffee, we headed out to the raspberry patch. The beagles came outside with us and hung out. We kept an eye on them- they lately had been really really good about sticking close to home when they weren’t on the leash up at mom’s house, just hanging out in the sun and not wondering too far off. After about an hour or so of raspberry picking we were getting into the middle of the patch and Mom decided to put the babies in the house so that we didn’t have to keep such a close eye on them.
Another hour of picking raspberries and we head back into the house for breakfast. But where are the dogs?
The little bastards got out the back door- through the screen door- and made off like bandits!!!! And JUST after we were bragging on them for being so good lately.
Add three hours of searching the yard, and all the roads nearby, and the woods, and the cow pastures, and the ditches and everywhere we could imagine- driving and drivng and driving. Three hours.
And then… as I was driving out of Craigtown Market and heading down the road I see Huck and Daisy coming out of one section of woods and heading across the road into another patch of woods. I pulled over and called to them both and they ran happily to me- Look! We went Adventuring! We played in the woods! We are hungry- can you feed us now? They had crossed a major road with fast moving cars and spent the last few exploring the woods and picking up no less than 8 ticks each and all kinds of smells.
I put the beagles in the car- so happy that they had at least stuck together and that I hadn’t given up on them- called James (in KY visiting his parents) to tell him I had found our babies finally- and took them home for a hose bath.
Just after we got back to the house- dirty dirty smelly dogs.

Rolling around in the grass, trying to get their nasty off

And then- falling asleep. They had just spend the last three hours Adventuring, right? That take s a lot out of a dog.

Later that afternoon, we left Mom’s and headed to the airport to pick up James. Huck wasn’t feeling all that well- he was sleeping a lot and seemed really sore and tired.

He slept the whole way down to the airport…

while Daisy freaked out in the backseat (as usual).

After a few days, turns out he was just fine. Maybe just getting old, maybe got into something while he was Adventuring on his 2009 Walkabout, maybe just is a drama queen.
